How to Get Help with Unsecured Debt

Credit Counselling Singapore (CCS) is an independent, non-profit Social Service Agency. We work closely with participating banks, with the support of The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS).

We also work closely with participating licensed moneylenders, with the support of the Credit Association of Singapore (CAS).

Our commitment is to help debt-distressed individuals address their unsecured debt problems through credit counselling, education, and the facilitation of suitable debt repayment arrangements under a Debt Management Programme (DMP).

Step 1: Get Informed About Your Options

If you're facing challenges with unsecured debt, the first step is to get informed. Learn how to improve your financial situation and explore the various approaches you can consider for debt settlement.

Attend one of our free Debt Management Talks to learn about

1. The Dos and Donts of managing an unsecured debt problem.
2. Available approaches for debt settlement.
3. How to arrange a credit counselling appointment and what to expect from CCS Debt Management Programme (DMP).

We want to help you regain control of your finances and work towards a feasible solution to address unsecured debt.

Step 2: Submit a Counselling Request with Supporting Documents

Ready to take the next step? If you wish to speak with a Credit Counsellor for personalised debt advice, submit a Counselling Request Form together with the required supporting documents.

You will receive a call from us to arrange an appointment once we have received all your documents.

How to Submit Your Counselling Request. After attending a talk or webinar, you will be asked to complete a feedback and attendance form. If you provide your email on the form, a PDF copy of the Counselling Request Form will be sent to you. For in-person attendees, printed copies of the form are also available.

See the list of required supporting documents.

Step 3: Attend Your Credit Counselling Session

During the session, which lasts about one hour, our Credit Counsellors will work closely with you to

1.   Review your income, expenses and monthly cashflow.
2.   Assess your payment capacity.
3.   Explore feasible solutions to address your debt situation.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be assigned to a group session. Group sessions are conducted to manage the high demand and reduce waiting times when our counsellors are fully booked for individual appointments. In a group session, you will complete questionnaires and perform a self-assessment of your payment capacity, with guidance and support from workshop facilitators.

Please note: There is no difference in how your payment capacity is assessed or in determining your suitability for a Debt Management Programme with CCS, whether you attend an individual or group session.
